Inside this digital guide you’ll find tools and information to help identify the right birth team, birth location, and create the birth plan that is right for you.
It offers crucial insights and actionable steps to take BEFORE birth so that you, your baby and family feel supported throughout the birthing process and into your 4th trimester.
Don’t wait until your final trimester to start educating yourself about pregnancy and your birth options.
Childbirth classes can help you prepare for birth, postpartum, and caring for a newborn!
Studies also show that childbirth classes can: support positive birth experiences and shared decision making, lessen the fear around giving birth, decrease rates of cesareans, lessen the odds of utilizing pain medication, increase breastfeeding rates, reduce the rates of anxiety and depression.
We recommend scheduling your class/series around 30 weeks in pregnancy! This allows you time to digest the information and seek out any additional resources you might need. If you’re past 30 weeks don’t worry, we often teach families closer to (and sometimes on) their due dates!
Yes, Dare to Birth was created to fill the gaps we saw in other popular class curriculums. Other classes can focus too much on the “right way” to give birth, often ignoring individual needs, lived experiences, and true informed choice. We give our students the tools they need to decide what is best for them and make those decisions in the moment.
We cover so many topics to prepare our students for birth, postpartum, and caring for their newborns. We could never list them all!
But here are a few of the highlights:
- advocacy skills and how to use them
- building your support team
- using comfort measures to cope with labor
- medical interventions
- creating a birth plan
- planning for postpartum and how to nurture yourself
- basics of feeding and caring for a newborn
Education is always empowering, birth is a big event that we want everyone to be prepared for but postpartum is forever and we want you to be prepared for that too!
Each pregnancy and birth is different so we believe that any family could benefit from our classes whether it’s your first baby or your fourth you’ll leave with skills and information that will help you during your birth and postpartum.
Yes! Our classes are designed for families birthing anywhere. And more specifically we cover labor coping strategies, movement in labor, medical interventions, postpartum care, and birth planning.

Yes! Regardless of what your birth plan is a childbirth class can still educate you on the other choices you get to make, help you prepare for any medical interventions that might arise, and prepare you for your postpartum period!
Here at Dare to Birth we believe that there is no right way to give birth, only your way! Education can help all families make more informed choices, advocate for themselves confidently, and feel empowered throughout their birth and postpartum period.
Yes, we love doulas, they are an integral part of the birth team! A childbirth class will enhance the experience you have with a birth doula. You’ll walk into birth with education from us AND hands-on support from your doula to rock your birth. Looking for a doula? Reach out and we will connect you with some of our favorite doulas!
When you sign up for a Dare to Birth class that reserves a spot for yourself plus one support person. That could be your partner, spouse, coparent, friend, or family member. We recommend bringing someone who will be supporting you during your birth or postpartum period. *If you’d like to bring an extra support person to class please reach out to us!
All of our classes cover different ways your team can support you! We use different activities to practice hands-on comfort measures, education, and advocacy skills that both you and your support person will need to utilize during birth and postpartum.
Our classes are taught by perinatal professionals of varying specialties, (doulas, midwives, perinatal massage therapists, etc.) hand picked to become educators due to their experience supporting families as well as their passion for education! Each Dare to Birth educator has completed our nine week training and certification program.
*If you know anyone who would make a good fit as a childbirth educator, learn more about joining our team here.
Both classes cover the same topics! A four-week series is great for families who are giving birth for the first time, or who want more in depth information spread out over four weeks. A One Day Crash Course is great for families who have experienced birth before, who have a limited schedule, or who are close to their due dates!
Every class may vary depending on demand and the size of the space, but our group classes average 3-5 families. We intentionally keep our classes small so there is plenty of time for you to learn and ask your educator questions.
Each family receives their own copy of our Dare to Birth workbook! Our work book is 50 pages of information, activities, journal prompts and more. These are utilized during class but can also be used after class to refresh your memory and help you further prepare for birth and postpartum. After each class you will also receive an email with additional resources we find the most helpful for our families. Dare to Birth also has an extensive resource list so if there is support, a service, or anything else you are looking for please reach out to your educator or to our team at daretobirth@gmail.com
Being trauma informed means that our educators recognize the lasting impact of trauma and how that impacts our students. We are always working towards creating safer environments as we navigate as well as trying to lessen the risk of trauma around birth and postpartum. All of our educators are ‘trauma-informed’ and you can see that in the way they educate and care for families.
Life and birth happens! So we do understand that sometimes classes will be missed.
If one class in a series is missed we offer one of these options:
1) come sit in on another class happening in your area
2) receive an in depth recap of the class you missed delivered to your email inbox (including basic information, additional resources, and subject relevant videos).
If you can’t make it to an entire Four Week Series or a One Day Crash Course please refer to our cancellation policy.
If you’d just like to switch to a different class date please send us an email at daretobirth@gmail.com. If for any reason you need to cancel your childbirth class, please reach out to us, if it is 48 hours or more before the class begins we will issue a full refund.
For the sake of our educator’s time, preparation and the cost of renting class space: if you are trying to cancel 48 hours or less before the class begins, we will not issue a refund unless you are missing class due to giving birth or illness.
